Dak Lak rewards slow travel, but even a short stay can show you a lot. Here are three plans that start and end in Buon Ma Thuot. All of them can be done as private tours with a guide, by bike or by car.
2 Days: The Highlights
- Day 1: explore Buon Ma Thuot: the central market, the Dak Lak Museum, an Ede longhouse and a coffee garden. Sunset at Ea Kao Lake.
- Day 2: drive or cycle to the Dray Nur and Dray Sap waterfalls in the morning, then continue to Buon Don for the bamboo bridges over the Serepok River before returning to the city.
3 Days: Lakes and Villages
- Day 1: Buon Ma Thuot city and coffee country.
- Day 2: travel to Lak Lake, visit M’nong villages and take a dugout canoe at sunset. Overnight at Y Sol House, our partner by the lake.
- Day 3: sunrise on the lake, then return to Buon Ma Thuot via the Dray Sap waterfall, or continue to Da Lat.
5 Days: The Full Dak Lak
- Day 1: arrive in Buon Ma Thuot and visit the city.
- Day 2: cycle to Buon Don and spend the night with a local family.
- Day 3: ride back through the Ede villages and coffee gardens of Cu M’gar.
- Day 4: travel to Lak Lake for a night at Y Sol House.
- Day 5: a morning on the lake, then the waterfalls on the way back to the city.
Fit hikers can swap day 5 for the two day Chu Yang Lak Peak Trek from Lak Lake in the dry season.
