Yok Don Jungle Trek
Two or three days on foot through Vietnam's largest national park, along the Serepok River and deep into open dry forest, starting from Buon Ma Thuot.
Yok Don is the largest national park in Vietnam and one of the last great dry forests of Southeast Asia. On this trek you leave the road behind and walk with a park ranger through open dipterocarp woodland, past old trees, streams and the wide Serepok River, looking for birds and signs of wildlife.
The two day version spends one night in the forest. On three days you add a second night with a family in Buon Don and a morning on the bamboo bridges of the Serepok. Every trek is private, so we set the pace and the distance to suit your group.
Tour highlights

- Watch elephants roam freely by the Serepok River on the park's elephant-friendly program (no riding)

Itinerary
Every part can be changed to suit your group.
-
Day 1 Buon Ma Thuot to Yok Don
Pick-up at your hotel in the early morning and drive about one hour to Yok Don. Meet your ranger and walk a few kilometres through the open forest to the Serepok River, where elephants from the park's elephant-friendly program feed and bathe freely. Yok Don stopped elephant riding in 2018, and you watch the animals quietly from a distance. Picnic lunch, then an afternoon walk through the forest with stops for birds and the plants local people use. Night in the forest, with dinner cooked by the team.
-
Day 2 Forest and river, back to Buon Ma Thuot
Wake early, the best time to see wildlife, and walk on along the river and through the forest. After lunch the car picks you up and takes you back to Buon Ma Thuot in the late afternoon. On the 3 day version you go to Buon Don instead and spend the night with a local family.
-
Day 3 (optional) Buon Don and return
Cross the bamboo suspension bridges over the Serepok and walk among the old stilt houses of Buon Don, then return to Buon Ma Thuot by early afternoon.
