Where is Lak Tours based?
In Buon Ma Thuot, the capital of Dak Lak in the Central Highlands of Vietnam. All our tours start and end here.
What kinds of tours do you run?
Private cycling, trekking and homestay tours in Dak Lak, from a one day coffee and waterfall ride to two and three day treks to Chu Yang Lak, Yok Don and Pal Sol, plus car rental with driver.
Do I need to be an experienced cyclist?
No, but you should be comfortable on a bike for a few hours. Day rides are 40 to 55 km at an easy pace, and a support vehicle follows the group so you can rest at any time.
Which tour is best for beginners?
The one day Coffee Garden and Dray Sap ride is the best introduction: about 40 km with plenty of stops.
How hard is the Chu Yang Lak trek?
It is a challenging two day trek: 5 to 7 hours a day on steep, sometimes slippery forest trails, with a night on the mountain. It suits fit hikers and runs best in the dry season, from about November to April. Our village and forest walks around Lak Lake and Yok Don are much easier.
Can the distance or route be changed?
Yes. Every tour is private, so we adjust distance, pace and stops to your fitness, the weather and your time.
What bikes and gear do you provide?
Mountain or hybrid bikes, helmets and basic gear. For treks we provide tents, sleeping mats and sleeping bags. Tell us your height when you book.
What are homestays like?
Simple and clean family homes or stilt houses, with bedding, mosquito nets and shared bathrooms. Dinner is cooked by your hosts. Read more in our homestay guide.
Are meals included?
Meals listed in each tour program are included, usually lunches on day tours and all main meals on overnight trips.
Is travel insurance required?
We strongly recommend it for all tours, and especially for treks. Make sure it covers cycling and trekking.
What happens if the weather is bad?
We adjust the route, start earlier, shorten the day or use the support vehicle. Your safety always comes before finishing a fixed distance.
When is the best time to visit?
November to April is dry and best for cycling and trekking. May to October is green, with afternoon showers and waterfalls at their fullest. See our month-by-month guide.
