Cycling in Dak Lak: What to Expect

Road through pine forest in Dak Lak

The Dak Lak plateau is a wonderful place to ride. Small roads wind through coffee and pepper gardens, rice fields and villages, traffic thins out quickly once you leave the city, and people wave from their doorsteps. Here is what to expect on one of our rides.

Terrain

Most of the province is a rolling plateau, not flat and not mountainous. Expect long gentle climbs and descents, with some steeper short hills. Roads are mostly paved; some village lanes are concrete or packed red earth, which can be muddy after rain.

Distances

Our day rides cover 40 to 55 km, at an easy pace with plenty of stops. You do not need to be an athlete, but you should be comfortable on a bike for a few hours. The support vehicle follows the group, so you can rest in it at any time.

Bikes and Gear

We provide a mountain bike or hybrid bike, a helmet and basic gear. Tell us your height when you book so we can prepare the right size. If you prefer, you can bring your own pedals or saddle.

A Typical Day

  • Start at 7:30 to ride in the cool of the morning
  • Short stops at farms, villages and viewpoints
  • A long lunch and rest during the hottest hours
  • An easier afternoon ride and arrival around 16:00

Weather

From November to April it is dry and sunny. From May to October afternoon showers are common, so we start early and keep the afternoons flexible. Read our month-by-month guide.
