Stay with local families

What a Homestay Night Looks Like

You arrive in the late afternoon, take a shower and settle in. Dinner is cooked by the family from local ingredients, and your guide helps you talk with your hosts about their work, their village and their traditions. In the morning you see the village wake up before breakfast and the next ride.

Rooms and Facilities

  • Simple, clean family homes or traditional stilt houses
  • Bedding and mosquito nets provided
  • Bathrooms shared with the family or other guests
  • A private room can sometimes be arranged

Homestay Etiquette

  • Take off your shoes before going into the house
  • Dress modestly and ask before taking photos
  • Try a little of every dish; it is fine to say no to more rice wine
  • A small gift from home is welcome but never expected

Stilt Houses, Shared Dinners and Fireside Evenings

Simple rooms with floor mattresses and woven blankets, long dinners with your hosts and evenings around the fire. This is what a homestay night by Lak Lake looks like.
