Overview

A Lake Beneath the Southern Mountains

Lak Lake lies beside the small town of Lien Son, about an hour and a half south-east of Buon Ma Thuot along Highway 27. Hills rise behind the water and rice fields run right down to the shore, which makes it one of the most photogenic places in the province.

The villages around the lake belong mainly to the M’nong people. In Jun village and M’lieng village you can still see stilt houses, fishing boats carved from a single tree trunk and family homestays where visitors can spend the night.

Things to do

What to See and Do

Paddle a Dugout Canoe

Glide across the lake in a traditional canoe paddled by a local boatman, ideally in the early morning mist or late afternoon light.

Jun Village

Walk through the M’nong village of Jun on the lake shore, with its stilt houses, small gardens and quiet lanes.

Bao Dai’s Former Lodge

On a hill above the lake stands a lodge built for Bao Dai, Vietnam’s last emperor, who came here to hunt. The view is the reason to climb up.

Ride Around the Lake

Small, mostly flat roads lead through rice fields and villages around the lake, ideal for an easy ride.

Stay at Y Sol House

Spend a night in a traditional wooden house at Y Sol House, our partner by the lake, share a home-cooked dinner and wake up to the sound of the lake.

Watch the Sunset

Find a spot on the shore or at a lakeside café as the sun goes down behind the hills.

Where to stay and eat

Y Sol House, Our Partner at Lak Lake

On our Lak Lake tours you stay and eat at Y Sol House, our local partner by the lake. Guests sleep in traditional wooden houses and share home-cooked dinners of grilled meat, local vegetables and dishes of the area, often followed by an evening around the fire.

Rooms are simple, with mattresses and woven blankets in a shared or family space. It is a place to slow down, meet people and wake up to the lake, not a hotel.
